Unix Systems Administrator - Oxfordshire Up to £35K (depending on experience) + Bonus + Benefits As part of the Unix Systems team within the IT department, you will be responsible for administering, developing, maintaining and providing internal support for our clients Unix based systems. These include web servers, DNS servers, and mail gateways in the UK and overseas. This position will primarily involve: Set up and day-to-day administration of Unix systems, providing internal support concerning Unix systems, assisting the web team with development of web based services using Perl, PHP, MySQl etc, support of internet services in our clients offices overseas, building, installing, and configuring applications on Unix systems, development of scripts (shell, Perl, etc) and maintenance of Unix system security. You will take an active role in planning future developments of Unix systems, helping to build robust, well documented, systems that will carry, so forward development of system administration procedures. Requirements: Minimum of 3 years of Unix system administration experience is required for this role, as well as education to degree level. You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team and have a flexible approach to your work. You must be well organised and understand the need for systems to be well documented, writing and maintaining the documentation when required. An understanding of the need for change control procedures on production systems, and a willingness to adhere to such procedures is essential. You should also be adaptable and prepared to learn new skills if needed. Essential Skills: Excellent knowledge of Unix (ideally FreeBSD or Linux) including installation, kernel tuning, and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of Internet server applications such as Apache, Sendmail, BIND, etc. Good knowledge of shell scripting and, ideally, Perl. Experience maintaining a multi-server Unix network. Good knowledge of internet protocols including TCP*IP. Understanding of security issues. Good verbal and written communication skills. For more opportunities please see www.additionalresources.net.
